Mid-Year 2025 Generative AI Update for State & Local Government
During our recent Q3 2025 Center for Public Sector AI briefing, I outlined how states are increasingly taking the lead on AI regulation—highlighted by the lifting of the federal moratorium and the passage of laws like Texas’s TRAIGA. We explored emerging trends, including AI as an economic development tool, the rise of sandbox environments for testing, and new applications in permitting and in-person meeting analysis. We also discussed the evolving impact of AI on tasks versus entire roles.
A key part of the session focused on what’s next: Agentic AI. I introduced foundational concepts like Model Context Protocol (MCP) for seamless data connectivity and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication for collaborative workflows—both essential to building a scalable agentic infrastructure for government services.
