The blockchain is the underlying infrastructure or ledger for the widely recognized cryptocurrency called bitcoin. The decentralized and permissionless elements of the blockchain infrastructure make it a disruptive infrastructure that has the ability to be a foundation for far more than just currency - it can ultimately enable a true online identity in government.
